Lately I’ve been craving a space for myself within our apartment and finally decided it was time to jump on it. We have a guest room that I knew I could make usable for when guests come while also having it be a girly space for me to work and create. Once I did some cleaning and rearranging to create the perfect, dual functioning space, it was time for some decor. I was inspired by this picture on Pinterest and per usual, I knew there was a Thrifty Thursday just waiting to be created from this. I loved how the clipboards were gold instead of the typical silver, but I wasn’t willing to pay a ton for new ones, so I searched some thrift stores. I was lucky enough to find three at Goodwill on a 50% Saturday which made each clipboard .15 cents. This same trip to Goodwill I found a cool wall sconce and a retro flower picture. Couldn’t resist either and didn’t break the wallet since it was all under $2!
I used gold spray paint to transform the clipboard into a chic wall display. Make sure to cover your board with a lot of newspaper, so it doesn’t get sprayed. I also loved that my inspiration picture used washi tape instead of frames, so I recreated that as well. Washi tape, for those that don’t know, is just decorative tape. You can find it at craft stores or online shops.
I wanted to add a mixed metal look to the office, so I used silver metal paint on the wall sconce. It’s found right at a craft store next to the gold leaf, which we talked about here. The sconce needed a candle, so I bought a battery operated one from Hobby Lobby using a 40% off coupon. I used free printables, cut apart a Sephora bag and used a frame I already owned, so all together this upgrade was under $10! Not too bad for a chic, new space.
