I got inspired for today’s post after a Saturday spent fabric shopping. Like most of my trips to JoAnn’s I find myself spending way too much time in there and buying more than I had planned. I happened to see this shadow printing kit in the paint aisle and was curious as to what it was all about. It’s by a company called Lumi. They sell three different products, but all have a DIY concept. They have a screen printing kit which takes your favorite photo and puts it on a t-shirt. There’s a kit that uses sunlight to create a tie-dye effect on clothes. Lastly, they have the shadow printing kit I picked out.
The box comes with everything you need, including very clear instructions. The whole concept is about using the sun to create a print onto the bag. It’s still incredibly snowy here, so I wasn’t able to put my bag outside like the directions say to do. I used a big bay window that had sun coming in and it seemed to work just fine. It did take a tad longer than the directions say since it wasn’t in direct sunlight. You can buy Lumi dye, which is what made the pink color on the bag, separately and I love the idea of buying more and doing this on a t-shirt. I used lace to create my pattern. I also found cute elephant buttons that I thought would make a funky look that I'm hoping to use on my next Lumi project! A few of my girlfriends and I have talked about having a craft day together and this will definitely be on my list of projects to do! So quick and easy, plus you end up with a new piece to sport around!
