Life is busy. Bottom line. I've always been a busy body and my weeks are usually spent trying to tackle a million things. Between working full time and my full time blog life sometimes it leaves little room for much else. I'm in prime wedding planning mode, on top of life in general and oh yea, just trying to have some fun and live a little while I'm at it. Whew. I'm exhausted just thinking about it. I'm sure you feel the same. Whether you have kids, are in school, or working two jobs to try to make ends meet, life is busy!
Before I (LC) took my fitness seriously, I had every excuse in the book for why I couldn't work out. You know, that good ol' excuse I'm too busy. Other excuses I've used: I was too tired, had plans, worked late, didn't feel good, and didn't want to mess my sleep up. I'm a sleeper, so screw with my sleep schedule and it's all over. On top of that, being a girl can just downright be annoying in regards to a regular fitness routine. I mean who wants to mess up their freshly washed hair? Not me, girl, not me. You name it, I've said it. Somedays just cooking dinner can feel like a chore. Am I right? As a Resource Girl though, I'm a true believer that in life you make time for the things you want to do. Where there’s a will there’s a way!
It's time. Time to stop saying life is too busy. Time to conquer those barriers you see ahead of you when you consider incorporating working out into your everyday life. I've lived and learned a few things through my excuses and as a true Resource Girl am here to give you some tips that both Cat and I use pretty regularly. So, go dust off those sneakers, pull out your sports bras and get your booty to the gym!
Dry Shampoo ||
It's every girl’s dream and our number one game changer in our fitness routine. We wash our hair every three- four days even with a regular workout routine thanks to dry shampoo. After an intense workout, blow dry the sweat out of your hair (yes, actually turn your blow dryer on and dry your sweaty hair). Once you've done that, apply the dry shampoo. You'll be out the door and on with your day in no time.
Healthy Snacks ||
Whether you keep them in your purse, your gym bag or in your desk at work, we all need a snack after a long day and prior to a workout. Keep them handy and ensure you're nurturing your body. Our number one rule in this area though is to ensure they're healthy! We don't want to totally negate that workout now that we actually showed up! Think 100-200 calories and nothing that will make you too full. Larabars, an apple, a banana, or a handful of almonds is a great place to start.
Gym Bag ||
Sounds simple, but if you're going to the gym a girl's gotta have a cute bag. I always pack mine the night before and set it by the door, so it's all ready for me to grab on my way to work. Plus, isn't it just more fun to head to a workout with a cute bag, and clothes obviously, than some crummy tote you've had for years? Get in the right state of mind with the right gear!
Routines aren't always a great thing and we all need to change it up every now and then, but if you're trying to figure out how working out will fit into your schedule, then actually schedule it! Keep that schedule for awhile and make it a routine. This part takes work, sorry there's no wonderful land of unicorns and butterflies to make this easier, you just have to do it.
Start small and gradually increase. Maybe for a month you try to make it to one class a week then two classes the following month. We all have to start somewhere, one is better than none!
A few necessities to have for that gym bag, or on hand now that you've decided (I mean haven't you decided? If not you should!) to work out regularly. Piper Wei is an all organic deodorant that these Resource Girls are obsessed with. We all sweat, some of us more than others (guilty as charged), so pick a stronger deodorant, like Piper Wei, and keep it in your bag. Water bottle, hair ties, bobby pins, good socks, and an extra pair of headphones are also great gym bag staples. It's the worst feeling when I get to the gym and my class is cancelled. NO excuse. Don't leave the gym. Pull out your headphones and get your booty on the treadmill.
Been a gym rat for years? We would love to hear what tips and tricks you’ve learned that help you incorporate fitness into your everyday life!
