What's old is new again. No, really it is. Now that we've lived in this thirties thing for a bit we're starting to realize trends from when we were in our younger years are slowly starting to come back around again. That makes us feel both old and a little hip. We'll take the hip for sure, the old is not something we claim to be just yet.
One such trend that's definitely back, and that we aren't ashamed to admit makes us happy, is chokers. We can definitely remember rocking one back in the 90's. You might not realize it but chokers are a lot more versatile than you think. Not only can you wear them multiple ways, but they're probably the easiest piece of jewelry you can make yourself. Yes, you read that right. We've got a tutorial for you and I don't care if you've never picked up a glue gun in your life, you can make this!
Allison, from Peach and Pepper, is always creating amazing one of a kind jewelry to pair with her boho designs. When we saw this picture on her Instagram we knew we had to make this choker!
We couldn't be more thankful she let us spread the word on this super trendy necklace.
Like we said, it's so simple and can be styled so many ways.
2 yards of leather
Needle Nose Pliers (optional)
1. Measure leather to desired length, mine is
2. On each end of your leather string. add a clasp. To do this, you simply lay the end of the leather in the middle of the clasp, then fold the two metal sides together. This will secure the leather and give you the ability to hang charms from it.
3. Now, take a jump ring and open it. These can sometimes be hard to open, so I used some needle nose pliers and they came right open. Add your charm onto the jump ring, loop the jump ring onto the clasp and close it shut. You may need the needle nose pliers to close the jump ring also, so keep those close by.
4. Now wrap the leather around your neck a few times, depending on your neck size, and tie it in a bow. We also love the idea of just buying the leather, wrapping it around your neck and leaving it as is, with no charms (pictured below). Another idea is to thread a charm through to the middle of your leather strand, wrap the leather around your neck and you easily have a personalized choker. Whatever way you decide to wear it, know you can style it multiple ways and as always make it your own!
