I received this book as a gift for my 31st birthday and I have to say it's my favorite book to date. I know I'm a very expressive person and get super excited about a lot of things but I will say without hesitation this book has changed me more than any other book I have ever read. I'm someone that has never had trouble getting rid of clothes, random items, papers, etc. So I truly didn't think I needed help tidying up but this is on another level. I have one major area left in which I need to purge items and that is my photos but other than that I have gone through every item I own.
Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari method, however, is SIMPLE. This is the best part. When asked about what kind of special storage items are needed Marie suggests people use shoe boxes! The KonMari method leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo’s clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list). This book gives you every tool you need to truly tidy up and ultimately change your life.
This is a small segment from the book, just to give you a taste:
When we honestly confront the things we own, they evoke many emotions within us. Those feelings are real. It is these emotions that give us the energy for living.
Believe what your heart tells you when you ask, "Does this spark joy?"
If you act on that intuition, you will be amazed at how things will begin to connect in your life and at the dramatic changes that follow. It is as if your life has been touched by magic. Putting your house in order is the magic that creates a vibrant and happy life.
This month only two questions:
1. What kind of life do you want to live?
2. Do the items in your home spark joy?
“Keep only those things that speak to your heart. Then take the plunge and discard all the rest. By doing this, you can reset your life and embark on a new lifestyle.”
